Both fixed braces and clear aligners move teeth reliably — orthodontics has never had better tools. The right choice depends less on which is "better" and more on your case, your habits and your priorities. Here's how we frame the decision in consultations.
When braces have the edge
Fixed braces excel at complex movements: severely rotated teeth, large bite corrections, and cases needing precise root control. They also can't be forgotten in a drawer — compliance is built in, which matters for younger teens.
When aligners shine
For mild to moderate crowding and spacing, aligners deliver excellent results with real lifestyle advantages: they're nearly invisible, you remove them to eat (no food restrictions), and brushing stays easy. The trade-off is discipline — they work only if worn 20–22 hours a day.
The honest comparison
Braces demand more from your hygiene; aligners demand more from your willpower. Neither shortcut exists: both need retainers afterwards to hold the result.
Cost and duration
Treatment times are broadly similar for comparable cases — typically 12 to 24 months. Metal braces are usually the most economical; ceramic braces and aligners cost more. We give you exact figures in a written plan after records and scans.
Our advice
Don't choose the appliance first. Choose the outcome, then let your orthodontist tell you which tools can honestly achieve it for your teeth. Book an assessment and we'll show you both options on your own smile.
